Home/Trade lanes/Middle East & India
South China to the Middle East and India
Jebel Ali, Dammam, Karachi, Nhava Sheva and Colombo — the lane where the origin documentation decides how smoothly the container clears.
Uni-Link books FCL and LCL cargo from Yantian, Shekou, Nansha and Huangpu to the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, including Jebel Ali, Dammam, Karachi, Nhava Sheva and Colombo. On these lanes the documentation matters as much as the sailing: certificate of origin, consignee details and invoice values are checked before the container leaves the terminal.

Why the origin side is a large share of the total here
| Part of the price | What drives it | What we do about it |
|---|---|---|
| Origin charges | Terminal handling, documentation, export declaration, trucking to the terminal | Listed separately on the quotation, never folded into the freight rate |
| Ocean freight | Space, equipment availability and season | Quoted against the current programme with a stated validity period |
| Destination charges | Terminal handling, customs, delivery and any legalisation at destination | Named as excluded, quoted on request through a partner agent |
| Certificate of origin and legalisation | Whether the destination grants reduced duty, and whether attestation is required | Checked at quotation stage so the document is ready before the cut-off |

Middle East and India questions
Does the certificate of origin need to be attested?
It depends on the destination and on the consignee's import channel. We confirm at quotation stage whether attestation is required, obtain the certificate through the issuing authority, and state any attestation fee as a separate line.
Can LCL cargo be shipped on this lane?
Yes. LCL is consolidated at the port of loading, and on these lanes it is often the sensible option for trial orders. Dense cargo is charged per cubic metre or per tonne, whichever is greater, so we check the weight first.
How long is a rate on this lane valid?
The validity period is printed on the quotation. Rates move with capacity and season, and a quotation that has expired is re-priced rather than carried over silently.
